Royal Musselburgh

Royal Musselburgh is the sixth oldest Golf Club in the world, dating back to at least 1774, as proven by the Old Club Cup which has winners listed back to that year. This cup remains the oldest trophy still competitively played for worldwide and can be viewed in the clubhouse. The golf club was granted Royal Patronage in 1876.

The parkland golf course was designed by the renowned Scottish golf architect James Braid when the club moved to its current site in 1925. There may be just one par 5 but there are plenty of lengthy par 4s.

The course is in a picturesque setting, with lines of mature trees separating the holes. Mostly over quite flat, but slightly undulating, ground, the main challenge of the golf course comes with the final holes. The short par 3 14th requires carry across a 30 foot gully to a small green, and playing short could leave you well below the height of the green. The dogleg 15th is considered the hardest hole on the course where the green is hidden from the tee and golfers will find achieving par is particularly tricky.

The Scottish baronial style clubhouse dates back in part to the 12th century with a Norman tower at its core.
