Hotel du Vin Edinburgh

Number of rooms: 47

The Hotel du Vin Edinburgh is ideally situated for exploring Edinburgh's Old Town, being close to the National Museum of Scotland, the heart of the old Edinburgh University buildings and a short walk to the Royal Mile and the Grassmarket.

The building dates back to 1743 and has been both a poorhouse and an asylum before being becoming part of a luxury townhouse hotel. The Hotel du Vin Edinburgh has 47 bedrooms and Suites, and charming public spaces. Original features can be found around the hotel which show some of the unique character of the building.

A range of bedrooms are available from Classic and Deluxe rooms to a choice of Suites. All bedrooms offer both a bath and shower. Deluxe rooms and Suites also have walk-in drench showers. Furnishings are to a high standard. Deluxe rooms offer king-sized beds and some rooms include quirky features such as the tartan sided free-standing 'battleship' bath in the Signature Suite.

All rooms also offer air-conditioning, for when Edinburgh weather enjoys warmer weather (it does happen!).

The Bistro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea. Private dining is also available in a choice of venues and the hotel even has a special area for whisky or wine tastings.

A city centre hotel is perfect for enjoying all that Scotland's capital city offers for culture, sightseeing or shopping and could perhaps be a perfect spot to relax for a few days at the end of a golf tour. Central Edinburgh is not particularly car friendly city and parking is relatively expensive – there is no parking at the Hotel du Vin itself.

However there are plenty of courses within easy reach if you do keep a car, or use a driver service. There are 25 golf courses in Edinburgh itself, including some excellent parkland tracts with stunning views. Over 100 golf courses are within an hour of the Hotel du Vin Edinburgh.

Golf:

Edinburgh is a compact city so despite being a central hotel there are over 20 inland courses within a 30 minute drive of the Hotel du Vin. Murrayfield, Mortonhall and Bruntsfield Links golf courses all offer quality parkland golf with the added advantage of views across the city and beyond.

The Hotel du Vin Edinburgh is under an hour's drive of over 15 links courses on the East Lothian coast, including championship standard venues such Gullane, North Berwick West Links and Muirfield, and there are many dozens more courses outside of Edinburgh within the same drive time.

For a group of golfers who may be using a driver or transfer service a central Edinburgh hotel is an ideal venue for enjoying the best of Edinburgh along with some excellent golf. For self-drive golfers we do need to highlight that a car and Edinburgh city centre do not necessarily go well together.

Please note:

While all rooms at the Hotel du Vin Edinburgh have a bath and shower, Classic rooms have a shower over the bath. Deluxe rooms and Suites have a separate walk-in drench shower.

Edinburgh City Centre is not car friendly, particularly for tourists. Parking is limited and day time parking can work out very expensive. There is no car park at the Hotel du Vin, the nearest option is the Q-Park in Lauriston Place which costs £16 for 24 hours. Hotel du Vin guests receive a 20% discount.

Dining:

The Bistro serves lunch on three days a week plus breakfast and dinner every day, as well as afternoon tea. In the evening the Bistro is a calm and cosily lit setting for dinner. Despite being in Edinburgh city centre the Hotel du Vin has a central courtyard which may also offer outside dining – when the weather permits.

There is a choice of private dining rooms including a Chef's table and a room that opens out onto the courtyard. The hotel even has a special area for whisky or wine tastings, which they will be happy to arrange with you.
