Gullane No 2

Golf has been played over the links at Gullane for more than 350 years. The village is surrounded by golf – Luffness New is at one end and Muirfield at the other. The natural setting of the No 2 course on Gullane Hill and the beauty of the East Lothian coast present a classic Scottish links experience.

Gullane Golf Club was created in 1884 with 32 members, now there over 1,200. Gullane No 2 opened 14 years after No 1, and was laid out by Willie Park Jr in 1898.

The golf course has a series of testing short holes that demand guile and skill. The course signature hole is the 215 yard par 3 11th hole which combines wonderful views with a testing tee shot. 3 bunkers guard the front of the green with more to the back if you fly the shot too far. Club selection is a tricky choice.

The course stays close to No 1 until the 7th hole when it sweeps down to a nature reserve next to Aberlady Bay before turning back towards home and the Visitors Clubhouse. It may be shorter than No 1 at 6,835 yards but it remains a challenging option and has been a Final Qualifying course for the Open Championship.

Gullane Golf Club is one of the few traditional Scottish golf clubs that offers a driving range for pre-round warm up as well as a short game area, practice putting green and bunker.
