Gullane No 1

Gullane No 1 is the most famous of the three courses at this venue. Established in 1884, it is a links course at the heart of Scotland's Golf Coast, less than an hour from central Edinburgh. Gullane No 1 offers some stunning views, particularly from the 7th tee, the highest point on the course, which presents a panoramic view across East Lothian, Edinburgh and Fife.

As with each of the Gullane courses this is a very natural links which is carved into the turf rather than being imposed upon it. The architect of the No 1 course is unknown.

The golf course presents traditional links features – pot bunkers, wispy grasses and smooth running greens. The height of the course means an almost ever present wind. This challenging links has been the venue for a number of professional and amateur golf tournaments including being a Final Qualifying venue for the Open Championship on five occasions and the setting for the Scottish Amateur Championship on four occasions. A composite golf course of the No 1 and No 2 courses was used for the Scottish Open in July 2015.

The No 1 is a long course, and a challenge for even serious golfers.
