Most golfers visit Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland for the famous links that stretch for miles from Irvine and Troon to the south. Belleisle is different. Not only is it a municipal golf course run by South Ayrshire council, it is a championship standard parkland course.

Less than a mile from the Clyde Coast as the crow flies this is a classic inland golf course with lush fairways surrounded by hundreds of impressive, mature beech trees. Belleisle is another course designed by the great James Braid, famed golf course architect and 5 times Open Champion. Set in the picturesque woodland of the Belleisle estate the layout must be the best public inland course in Scotland.

There are views to be glimpsed of the Isle of Arran from a couple of holes but this is not a course being played for seaside views. There are challenging par 3s, long par 4s and a tricky dog leg par 5 to finish the round. From the white tees there are only two par 4s that measure less than 400 yards.
