Tain golf course is a traditional highland links in a quite beautiful setting, lying between the Dornoch Firth and a mountain backdrop. The setting offers more shelter than is often found on Scottish links.
Old Tom Morris designed the original golf course which is just 15 minutes from the better known Royal Dornoch. Dornoch will be the main draw for many golfers visiting this area but the delights of the links at Tain should not be ignored.
This is an enjoyable and challenging course for all levels of golfer. The fairways are surrounded by masses of gorse and heather. The holes vary in character as you progress around the course, which is set across a large area. What may seem benign at first sight takes more skill than you might expect. Accuracy is very important rather than sheer length.
The course signature hole is the par 4 11th, Alps, which neatly describes the large dune mounds which protect the green and make the approach shot to the narrow green blind, beyond which is the beach and the Firth.
Tain, along with Golspie and Brora, offers a wonderful choice of links along this coastal stretch as strong support to the more well known Royal Dornoch.
