Boat of Garten boasts stunning highland surroundings. Sitting beside the River Spey, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, the southern views from the course are dominated by the often snow-capped mountains.
The course winds its way through avenues of birch trees with the fairways lined with plenty of heather and broom. You may even see the steam train on the Strathspey Railway chuff past the golf course. It all adds up to a beautiful Scottish Highland setting.
The layout was designed by the famed Scottish golf architect, James Braid. The course started as a 8 hole venue in 1898 and the 18 hole James Braid course was opened in 1932. The course may be relatively short in length but the holes are varied and testing, making maximum use of the natural setting. The course runs up and down hill and the often tight fairways follow the contours of the land.
The course signature hole is considered to be the dogleg 6th which needs a good drive to set up the approach shot to a well guarded plateau green. As with so many Braid designed golf courses accuracy is more important than overall length.
'The Boat' is a venue for fun and enjoyable golf with spectacular views, with green fees that won't break the bank.
