Flights

Flights to the Scottish islands are operated by Loganair. Services include Stornoway, Benbecula and Barra as well as Orkney and Shetland.

Of most interest to golfers may be the range of Golf Day Trips Loganair normally offer out of three UK airports. Specific information is not available on the Loganair website at present but flights are still available from Glasgow, Inverness and Manchester for golf trips as below:

Now you can add a day with a difference to a golf trip - far-flung, scenic coastal and island links are not out of reach to touring golfers focused on Scotland's mainland courses.

Machrihanish may be one of the Scotland's most famous coastal courses, and without a flight is a 4 hour drive from Glasgow. The course, where the 1st tee can take in a shot across an Atlantic beach, is only 10 minutes from Campbeltown. The more recently established, but equally dramatic, Machrihanish Dunes is 15 minutes from Campbeltown.

Machrie Links re-opened in 2018 after considerable work to restore the former glory of this classic island links. It is a short hop from Glasgow to the isle of Islay, where the Machrie Links are 5 minutes from the airport.

A recently introduced island hop is a day trip to Benbecula for a round at Askernish Golf Club, one of the most natural links you'll find. Originally designed by Old Tom Morris the course returned to the wild through lack of use, even being used as an airstrip. The efforts of a group of locals brought the "lost" course back to life in 2008. Magnificent ocean views and glorious dunes make this a day out to remember.

The Isle of Harris Golf Club is in a wonderful setting, close to the beach and with a stunning backdrop. The course is an hour from the airport at Stornoway, on Lewis, so as an added bonus you drive through the beautiful and constrasting landscapes of the two parts of the Outer Hebridean island of Lewis and Harris.

With a new service running between Manchester and Inverness, why not have a day of golf at Castle Stuart Links from Manchester. Castle Stuart is one of Scotland's stunning modern Championship Links, in a splendid setting on the south of the Moray Firth. This is a real treat for a unique day trip from the north of England.

Nothing to do with golf, but Loganair also offer a day trip to the Isle of Barra from Glasgow, between November and March - Barra is famous for the runway being on the beach, and the world's only runway for scheduled flights to be washed twice a day by the sea. This trip lets you experience an unique landing and take off with a short stop in between for coffee and cake.
