Golf courses such as Portpatrick are not on most visitors play list, but this is a beautiful part of Scotland offering varied course styles with beautiful coastal views – Portpatrick, Stranraer and Southerness are all worth considering for their delightful coastal settings.
The Dunskey course is the 18 hole course at Portpatrick Golf Club. Set on the coast to the north of the pretty little harbour town of Portpatrick this links course offers dramatic and spectacular sea views over rocky cliffs. On a clear day you can see beyond Scotland to the Isle of Man and the mountains of Northern Ireland. With clear views the ideal line for your drive at the 10th is the chimney stack marking the mouth of Belfast Lough!
There are four excellent par 3 holes on the Dunksey course – perhaps the most interesting being the 4th hole, where the wind will determine club choice to clear the gully in front of the green. It may not be a long distance but one round it could be a wedge, the next a 3 wood. The weather and the rough are the two major challenges golfers will face on the course. The few bunkers are relatively benign for a Scottish links.
Many of the golfers playing here each year are visitors, with the same people coming back time and again to experience this delightful golf course.
