Kittocks, Fairmont St Andrews

The 5 star Fairmont Hotel offers two championship standard golf courses, the Kittocks – originally known as the Devlin, after the original designer – and the Torrance.

The Kittocks is a very different experience to the many traditional links around St Andrews. Both Fairmont golf courses are set on the cliff by the Hotel, high above the town of St Andrews. As such they offer wonderful views out to sea – the Kittocks stays close to the rugged coastline for many holes.

You may feel this course has a bit of American golfing style to it with two man made lakes. Despite these inserted features the course was designed to follow the natural terrain and contours of the land, such as the large gully which runs through the course. This is clifftop rather than links golf and the fairways mostly lack the undulations of the classic links courses – that might be considered a welcome feature!

The Kittocks is a challenging golfing layout. For those who prefer to use ride-on carts, the Kittocks is one of the few championship courses in the area specifically designed with integrated cart paths.

The Kittocks tends to be one of the less booked up courses in the St Andrews area so it is a great option for a stand-by day, or for golfers who want to rest their legs a bit by using a buggy.
