Jubilee Course, St Andrews

There are seven golf courses managed by the St Andrews Links Trust, four of which are championship standard.

The Jubilee is the third course to have been created to championship standard, having originally been designed as a 12 hole course for beginners. The current design is a result of major changes to the golf course by Donald Steel in 1988. By raising many tee-grounds the views were enhanced but the golfer's drives have been more exposed to the wind.

It is difficult to say whether the St Andrews New or Jubilee are the better golf course as everyone you ask may have a different opinion. However the Jubilee is often said to be the more challenging and testing as it is more exposed to the wind and the closest to the sea, being set on a narrow strip of land between the New course and the dunes.

The course was named Jubilee as it was opened for play on the date of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

Like the New course, and indeed the Old, the Jubilee has all the links features you would expect – undulating tight fairways, deep bunkering and the additional hazard of lots of deep gorse.
