Gleneagles King's

The King's course at Gleneagles was the first of the three 18 hole Championship golf courses to be laid out at Gleneagles – it actually predates the finish of the Hotel. Designed by Scottish golf architect, James Braid, the King's course is considered to be one of his masterpieces. He undoubtedly had a particularly spectacular location in which to work. Braid's intent was to test even the best players’ shot making skills over the 18 holes.

The setting for the golf course is stunning, amidst the Ochil Hills with views of the Trossachs and Ben Vorlich in the distance to the west. The course has many vantage points from which the golfer can enjoy the beautiful surrounding Scottish countryside.

Where the King's differs from more modern Championship designs is the number of blind shots that face the golfer around the course. Careful club selection is essential.

For many years the course was the venue for the Scottish Open but it also hosted the forerunner to the Ryder Cup, when in 1921 the first ever American golf team visited Scotland to play a British side which included James Braid, Harry Vardon, JH Taylor, Ted Ray and George Duncan. The US team captain, Emmet French, despite losing heavily to the British team, declared Gleneagles 'a glorious place to be'. We agree!

Gleneagles green fees change from month to month across the year, both for hotel residents and non-residents, and are best checked on the Gleneagles Hotel website for the dates you wish to play. We have provided high season visitor fees below for August to end September. Green fees will be higher in July 2022.
