Downfield

Downfield is just to the north west of Dundee and is a beautiful parkland golf course, described by Paul Lawrie as "one of the finest inland courses in Britain". Lawrie actually went through Open Final Qualifying at Downfield in 1999 to secure his place at the Open Championship at Carnoustie that year, which he went on to win.

The golf course that is played today was laid out in 1964, retaining only five of the holes from the layout that preceded it.

Set in lush, mature, parkland, with an abundance of wildlife, Downfield is a challenging course to all levels of golfer. There is water in play on a number of holes, and here particularly sensible course management is important rather than pure distance. Ladies should note that the par is 74 with a standard scratch of 75, which includes six par 5s.

Less than 45 minutes from both St Andrews and Carnoustie, Downfield Golf Club can provide an inland contrast to the many links around the nearby coastal areas.
